The conference venue, Future Africa, is situated on the Hillcrest campus of the University of Pretoria. Although there are not shops in the immediate area of the conference venue, or within short walking distance, a shuttle service will be offered to a nearby shopping mall (Hillcrest Boulevard) during the days of the main conference: once in the morning and once in the afternoon. Hillcrest Boulevard is a smaller shopping centre which has a large pharmacy (DisChem), two supermarkets (Woolworths and Pick n Pay), a travel agency (Flight Centre), PostNet, coffee shops and liquor store amongst others.
Brooklyn Mall and Brooklyn Square (http://www.brooklynmall.co.za/) are upmarket malls with many shops, boutiques, pharmacies and restaurants during the days of the main conference. Delegates can make their own arrangements for transport. More detail on transport options will be provided.
Other large shopping malls in the area are:
• Menlyn Park (https://menlynpark.co.za/)
• Menlyn Maine Central Square (http://centralsquare.co.za/)
More about Pretoria – the capital city – also known as Tshwane
Pretoria is also known as Tshwane. It falls under the municipality, City of Tshwane. As the administrative capital, Tshwane is the proud host of the country’s national government and houses the ministries and head offices of all national government departments. We have a mild climate, and the end of September will be spring, with Jacaranda trees that might be in full bloom.
The charm of Tshwane lies in the harmonious blend of cultures and traditions that makes it one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the world. Hooting taxis, buses crammed to capacity, hawkers selling an array of goods at intersections and sidewalks, chauffeur-driven vehicles of diplomats and the upmarket shopping malls are the contrasts that make this city exciting and interesting. Tshwane has its share of lively hotspots, the sights and sounds that reflect the true spirit of South Africa, and many good restaurants. Please refer to the document compiled by Tshwane Tourism for more detail.
The City of Tshwane is in the Gauteng province (https://www.gauteng.net/). The University of Pretoria is situated in the suburb of Hatfield. Please refer to the document compiled by Tshwane Tourism for more detail.
